A legacy of faith and community
Warren United Methodist Church has been a faithful presence in Pittsburgh for more than 145 years. From its early beginnings as a small gathering of believers to its long-standing home on Centre Avenue, Warren has carried forward a legacy of faith, resilience, service, and community care.
As a historic Black United Methodist congregation, Warren’s story is woven into Pittsburgh’s broader history of faith, community leadership, and the ongoing work of justice and reconciliation.
Today, Warren continues its mission to reach people where they are, receive them as they are, relate to God through Jesus Christ, and nurture disciples for Christian service.

Pastoral leadership
Rev. William B. Meekins
Lead Pastor, Warren UMC
Rev. William B. Meekins serves as Lead Pastor of Warren United Methodist Church, bringing decades of experience and a heartfelt commitment to ministry and community. A longtime leader within the Western Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church, Pastor Meekins has served in multiple roles across the connection, including pastorates, district leadership, and his appointment as Assistant-to-the-Bishop, giving him a broad perspective on both ministry and church vitality.
Earlier in his ministry, Pastor Meekins spent nearly ten years as a full-time chaplain with the Veterans’ Administration health care system, offering compassionate spiritual care to veterans and their families. He has also shepherded congregations in diverse, multi-ethnic communities, including a significant pastorate at Garden City UMC in Monroeville, where he guided the church through seasons of growth, strengthened stewardship, and leadership development.
Pastor Meekins’s ministry is also shaped by extensive international travel, where he has gained extraordinary insight into global Christian communities, cross-cultural ministry, and the shared spiritual needs that unite God’s people across borders. These experiences continue to inform his passion for inclusive ministry, social justice, and intergenerational connection—values that reflect his belief that the church must meet people where they are and welcome them fully.
